Frequently Asked Questions

Dedication and commitment to honing the skills and experience we bring to the pursuit of engineering and industrial design are paramount in ensuring that we provide a second to none service.

Willingness to work with flexible solutions coupled with the experience to help you avoid unwanted compromise. Low overheads, strategic use of technologies and relationships with our key suppliers and associates ensure cost-effective collaboration.

“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.”
– Thomas A Edison

We start by listening to our customers and focusing on their needs.
We offer the management and engineering tools most suited to each customer’s individual project requirements. In addition, we plan for efficiency and keep overheads to a minimum to pass the savings on to our customers.

“How do you eat an elephant?”
“One bite at a time”

No, it costs nothing to talk. We’re always more than happy to talk about new projects and offer our initial guidance completely free of charge. If you like our terms, which we’re sure you will, we can provide you with a quote and often start work immediately.

“Talk is by far the most accessible of pleasures. It costs nothing in money, it is all profit, it completes our education, founds and fosters our friendships, and can be enjoyed at any age and in almost any state of health.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

We have industry experience in a broader range of industries than most, but our policy is always to assume nothing. Listening is our best and most valuable tool, and you know your industry better than most. Whenever we set out to collaborate on a project with a new customer, their knowledge combines with ours to redouble the focus we bring to your project.

We have extensive experience in Industrial Design, Aerospace, Automotive, Mining, Consumer Products and Appliances, Manufacturing, Tooling, Sports and Leisure and working with new Inventions.

“I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance” – Socrates

We mainly use Siemens NX* CAD/CAM software, Solidworks, and occasionally Alias Studio Tools, Autodesk, or CATIA to suit specific clients.

We choose NX because, as the name suggests, it delivers an outstanding capacity to express all aspects of the design process across the widest range of industries. It also has excellent extended support for rapid prototyping, reverse engineering and manufacturing.

The hardware we employ is basically a high-performance version of an ordinary desktop or laptop computer. With additional pointing devices and sketching tablets, we’re able to do extraordinary design work. While maintaining access to a suite of communications and collaboration tools available via the Internet.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
Arthur C. Clarke

For us, the basics we start with always come back to the 3D CAD digital model definition. After that, the primary ways to communicate design concepts are through images and animations, which you will find on this site.

As deliverables, there are also engineering drawings, typically in PDF formats per the relevant industry standards. But digital data files increasingly lead the way through translating geometry into formats suitable for a broader range of processes.

There are also many ways to review and interact with a design. For example, we can work with you to set up and use viewers and web conferencing tools to collaborate in visualising product designs.

Wherever you are in the world, the truth is that your market is probably global. As a developed nation with skill levels second to none, Australia offers access to cutting-edge technologies at much lower costs than Europe or North America due to favourable exchange rates.

We use the communication tools you have come to expect. Ranging from the traditional Phone and SMS/MMS messaging services to more cost-effective tools like email VoIP tools and messaging apps like WhatsApp. We also meet with clients using video conferencing and screen sharing platforms such as Zoom, Skype and Hangouts.

Our Resources page will help you find tools and services for exchanging data, video conferencing and desktop sharing via the internet. Experience coordinating local and international projects has been key to establishing the means to communicate to and from anywhere in the world.

We have confidentiality agreements in place with dozens of companies and are entrusted with keeping their ideas safe. Our Non-Disclosure and Privacy policies are vital to ensure your sensitive information stays out of the public domain. All material used for our own promotional purposes has been doctored or provided only with specific client approval.

We maintain data using secure disk encryption and employ firewalls with multiple layers of protection for all project-related material. Data is always backed up to dedicated storage and is transmitted only in encrypted archives for your security.

We can also provide you with a standard Non-Disclosure pro forma to legally protect your confidential data.

The truth is that we never know until we discuss the scope of any design. When we do so, we will offer solutions and tailor them to suit your needs. At this stage, we will be able to provide indicative quotations and estimate the delivery time for you.

We are used to guiding clients who are uncertain about how their needs can best be met and what form the deliverables might take. We offer free consultation and guidance before the commencement of any project to provide that information.

In addition, we provide simple tools for you to set out your requirements clearly and succinctly to provide a framework we can use to respond to your needs.

“How long was I in the army? Five-foot eleven.” – Spike Milligan

Depending on the project specification, we will calculate the cost as a fixed hourly rate that varies slightly depending on the content you require. We will do so in an entirely fair and transparent manner, preferring to be open in our dealings with all of our clients. For example, if the job takes substantially less time than the initial quotation. In that case, it may be reasonable to conclude that the content has diminished and charge less.

If on the other hand, we offer a fixed price then we understand that you place great store in our reliability and undertake to honour our commitments. Especially when it comes to manufacturing or prototyping where the value of deliverables is agreed upon in advance.

Finally, interpret the quote below as you will but know that we don’t compromise on quality.

“Good, Fast, Cheap pick any two” – Anon

Low overheads are a stated virtue of our business model. We don’t pay for facilities or services that we don’t use, and we pass those savings on to you. Instead, we concentrate on providing a lean but fully featured suite of services, coupled with the skill, dedication and expertise that other companies offer at a premium.

We’re also a one-stop shop for clients seeking to take a project from concept to production. Clients can take advantage of a complete turnkey service or slot into any of the stages in between.

We provide Engineering Design, CAD Modelling, Reverse Engineering, Styling and Industrial Design, Drafting, Prototype and Tooling, Technical Documentation, Animations and Images for marketing, Data translations, Training and Consulting services.

We also have in-house 3D Scanning, 3D Printing and prototyping capabilities, augmented by solid relationships with associated specialists and manufacturers. As a result, we offer solutions from the most specific design requirements to prototyping and manufacturing at production volumes.

You get the provision of design services, the agency we provide in working with various associates, and the delivery of materials and data to meet your requirements on time and on budget.  We stand behind the quality of our work with the backing and reputation gained through years of service.

For clients seeking to take a project from concept to production, we follow tested scheduling methods. Setting approvals in stages based on updates in data and samples ensures quality always precedes production.

Setting up reviews to approve key milestones means you can make decisions to manage your investment according to how the design progresses.

For example, key design stages would typically include Concept approval, Feasibility, Prototype release, Design Freeze, Drawing Release, Testing and final revisions before the Production Release.

We set approvals in stages based on updates in data and physical samples for prototyping or manufacturing projects to ensure quality throughout the production process.

Of course, not all projects and industries work with the same milestones. However, this is where our experience working with and listening to our customers focuses our efforts on the essential objectives.

We have rapid prototyping options like 3D Printing, which can produce low volume, low-cost samples of designs with lead times measured in days rather than weeks.

The materials used may vary from mechanically representative plastic compounds to straight visual facsimiles of the 3D CAD models in lower-cost compounds.

We can also access rapid tooling options which deliver higher quality one-off tool samples with reduced lead times.

In larger quantities, we partner to produce tooling and products at competitive cost and timing. Typical lead times are in the order of a few weeks, and production tooling for injection moulding can, in some instances, be reduced to as little as 4-6 weeks.
